Who Can Apply?

Any campus in the Region IV ESC area that serves students with disabilities may submit an application for participation in the Building Inclusive Schools Initiative. This includes charter schools that serve students with disabilities.

How Are Campuses Selected?

The selection criteria for campuses applying to the Building Inclusive Schools Initiative may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Alignment of the campus improvement plan, current campus initiatives, and the Building Inclusive Schools Initiative (BISI)
  • Evidence of campus level collaboration in the development of the application
  • Responses to questions on the application reflect data driven decisions

How Does A Campus Apply?

Each year, every campus in the Region IV ESC area currently not participating in the Building Inclusive Schools Initiative (BISI) is notified of the application/overview meeting. If a campus is interested in participating in the initiative, a representative must attend this two-hour application meeting.

The application meeting is intended for campus principals and assistant principals. The scope of the meeting includes:

  • The history and purpose of the Building Inclusive Schools Initiative (BISI)
  • Expectations for participating campuses
  • Support and services provided to the campuses in the project
  • Review of the application process and timelines

Applications will be disseminated at this meeting. A campus must send a representative to this meeting in order to receive an application for participation in the initiative.
