The Building Inclusive Schools Initiative (BISI) is designed to:

• Align with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA 2004) and with state and local education improvement efforts
• Improve results for students with disabilities through higher expectations and meaningful access to the general education curriculum
• Address individual student needs in the least restrictive environment
• Model and reinforce collaboration and consultation between general education and special education staff
• Focus on best practices for academic and behavior interventions for students with diverse learning needs
• Address the specific needs of campus personnel at the appropriate levels of readiness--awareness, knowledge/information, application, and operations
